16mm and HD video transferred to video rt 10:00

Two nights ago I dreamt all the objects of the world had been washed away in a giant wave. There was a museum of the Tibetan object, but it was really a museum of all the objects that had survived. They were set up in Lazy Su- sans that swirled together all moved on a conveyor belt that traveled throughout the museum. It was the objects that moved by themselves throughout the museum, and not the public. I was given a few minutes to compose a history of the world with 5 objects for a crowd in the auditorium.

Oneiromancer
2017

hd video, 26 minutes
Oneiromancer approaches the sensorial unconscious of the Puerto Rican anti-colonial movement. It centers on the figures, places, and leftover materials of the members of the Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación  Nacional, a clandestine group, who were arrested and sentenced to near-lifetime prison terms for seditious conspiracy, a political crime.

In the dream, she reaches into the bag without loocking and pricks her finger with a nightshade bud. In the dream she sticks her hand inside the bag without looking and she pricks her finger with a salt covered glass shard. In the dream she sticks her hand in a PVC tube and her hand is covered with crab dung, in the dream she sticks her hand in the mountain and the cave fills with hand. In the dream she pricks
her hand with a ship and there remain the bucket and the woman alone and she pricks her finger with a crab shard. In the dream, the supermoon rolls like marbles between two boulders and Amanda slips through to get it.

16mm film, 6:52 rt
Shot from the old fuel dock, a mile and a half long struc- ture once used to service battleships and now used by fishermen as a new shore at the now decommissioned US Naval Base of Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba, Puerto Rico. The view from the dock is on one side the Island of Vieques, and on the other; Vieques Sound a passage that connects the Caribbean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean.

The film is shot through mirrored objects built to break the camera’s depiction of space. They are simple seeing machines, Malascopios, somethign built to see wrongly.

Matrulla
2014
Since 1971, Pablo Díaz Cuadrado has been living a few miles away from the Matrullas Lake, in the town of Orocovis, located at the central mountain chain of Puerto Rico. The name Orocovis means memory of the first mountain. Pablo’s kitchen inclines over this first mountain; the wall is the hillside reinforced with river stones. In this place Pablo plants and stores ancient grains and seeds, accumulates materials with possible and unpredictable future uses, supervises the decomposition and reconstruction of everything that surrounds him; raises bees and prepares himself for the moment in which water and food will no longer be available. The film approaches the physical structures, time, and symbolic value of Pablo’s project as well as the site as a whole, as an assemblage; from a political and aesthetic re- arguard that quietly picks up progress’s debris and tests alternative ways of living.
